«Mabuta» is the light and functional suit used by airborne, reconnaissance and special operations personnel since the times of Soviet operation in Afghanistan. It got its popularity due to its cut, material and ventilation system that made it optimal for use in tropical and desert environments. Ukrainian military and field brand P1G-Tac® tried to combine past with the future by taking key principles of original «Mabuta» and making it in modern technology and design. Moving forward we would be looking at Mabuta MK-2 Suit by P1G-Tac® in Field Toad Camo Pattern.
Mabuta MK-2 Suit by P1G-Tac® is delivered in two cloth bags with tie-downs and cord locks, designed not only to protect suit components from external factors (dust, mud and moisture), but also to protect surrounding things in case your suit is dirty. These bags will help you out if you got your Mabuta MK-2 by P1G-Tac® wet, sweaty or dirty, and want to return it into the backpack when changing clothes.
Hot Weather Field Jacket
Hot Weather Field Jacket, Top of Mabuta MK-2 Suit by P1G-Tac®, has four chest pockets, two shoulder pockets, ventilation openings to improve thermal balance and some other features I will point out below.
High standing collar (shown on the photo above with SAS Jungle Hat by P1G-Tac® and Condor Multi Wrap) protects your neck and chin from wind and moisture, prevents water, debris and bugs from getting to your neck. Besides that, the collar also prevents shoulder straps of your armor and load bearing systems from rubbing against your neck, that adds to overall comfort during the long-term use.
Another distinctive feature of Mabuta MK-2 Jacket by P1G-Tac® is the lowered back. Thanks to that, you can protect your lumbus and lower back from wind, precipitations and moist if you happen to lean or sit onto a wet or dirty surface. It also blocks dust and dirt from getting behind your trousers’ belt.
Up on the chest Hot Weather Field Jacket has four zippers and Velcro strips for attaching nametapes, identifiers and other insignia. Two zippers open chest pockets with cross-draw access (right hand — left pocket, left hand — right pocket) that become hardly available under plate carriers and load bearing vests, but if you use Mabuta Suit MK-2 by P1G-Tac® with backpack, uploading belt or War Belt\Battle Belt these pockets would readily accept your papers, compass, maps and other flat items. Lining of the chest pockets is made out of mesh that provides additional venting. The photo above also shows the front YKK zipper with zipper protector that is closed on Velcro and blocks dust, dirt and water from damaging your zipper.
The role of main cargo containers in Mabuta MK-2 Jacket by P1G-Tac® is given to the shoulder pockets, showing its partial intent for raids. Pockets are closed via zippers and have Velcro panels for insignia on the front. Inside there is an additional zipper that splits the pocket in two compartments. Thanks to it you can not only organize items inside the pocket, but also use open pockets as ventilation openings, allowing additional airflow to come in. Since Mabuta MK-2 Suit by P1G-Tac® is designed for summer use, attention to airflow and ventilation system are taking not the least place.
There are two vertical cuts with mesh lining in armpit areas, air flow through which is regulated via YKK zippers with two zipper pulls.
Similar zippers are located in two pockets on the chest. Through the mesh in them air has the ability to get into the jacket even if you wear an armor vest on top of it. Two zipper pulls allow you to fit the width of the opening and use it completely open in hot weather and simply as a pocket in cold weather. I would suggest placing zipper pulls in the middle of the zipper so that you can open and access lower section of the pockets even while wearing the plate carrier.
Besides the listed features, you can also mount the additional pads into the elbow areas on the sleeves and fit diameter of the cuffs via Velcro.
Hot Weather Field Pants
In the front of Mabuta MK-2 Pants by P1G-Tac®, called Hot Weather Field Pants you can at once notice the integrated knee pads and the elastic nylon area around them. Main function of this area is to provide comfort fit of the kneepad and cushioning insert when moving or changing stances by minimizing its movement. Besides that, thanks to lower thickness, this area increases air circulation next to knee and hip improving the overall thermal regulation.
In the back attention is drawn by elastic insert on the belt, two cut-in pockets on the buttocks, two hip cargo pockets and tightness regulation for the kneepads. Unlike OPS Ultimate Direct Action Pants that we reviewed previously, kneepad fit is regulated by shock cord, not Velcro flaps. It is not a surprise, since such method does not use several layers of core material and proves P1G-Tac®’s intent to make Hot Weather Field Pants as breathable as possible.

From overall review let’s now move to smaller details.
Diameter of the padded waist is set via Velcro flap next to pants fly allowing you to get required fit for the clothes you plan on using together with the pants.
Additionally Hot Weather Field Pants are secured by the belt as high as 5,5 cm. for which you have five wide belt loops. Four of them (two up front, and two in the back) have built in D-rings for attaching important items of your kit (pistol lanyards, knife or flashlight retainers etc.) and accessories such as headgear, gloves, eyewear cases etc.
There is an elastic insert, similar to the one around the knees, in the lower back area. In here, it also allows to get maximum fit when changing stances, bending etc. This insert also helps in fighting cases when you belt jumps up after every bend and you have to adjust its position every time. In addition, it has its role in air circulation around your lower back what is important when carrying backpacks, uploading belts or War Belts\Battle Belts.
Lower from the elastic there are two pockets with flaps on Velcro. Those flaps can be located both inside and outside the pocket that makes the access to the contents faster. As for the access need to warn you that it would be quite limited if you plan using your pants with War Belt\Battle Belt. Besides that, inner size of these pockets is enough for carrying different relatively small items.
Front diagonal pockets have wide opening in order to make access in shooting or tactical gloves easier. Lower part of the opening is reinforced with additional layer of core material, which will make fans of carrying knives, multi-tools and flashlights and other items with metal clips in here a bit happier.
Deeper in these pockets there are buckles, securing the straps that help vertically position your kneepads.
A bit lower from front diagonal pockets there are additional pockets with flaps that close on buttons. The way to hold the buttons is similar to the one used on British military uniforms, and allows to quickly access and securely hold contents while prolonging button’s service time. These buttons have some excessive strap, that don’t let it rip apart when they get pulled and also allow some adjustment to fit pocket’s size to its contents.
Same buttons are closing the big cargo pockets located on the backside of the hips. By the size they are about twice as big as the front pockets and perform functions of the main cargo containers for your gear. Please notice that beside two buttons on the flap, the opening of these cargo pockets can be secured via the shock cord tie-down with cord lock. With the help of these shock cords you can turn your cargo pockets into drop leg pouch for your primary or secondary weapon system.
I find using «British» buttons in contrast to Velcro on front and back hip pockets to be an advantage. If you happen to crawl forward and backwards in prone position a lot velcro would have been clogged with dirt and small vegetation (grass, leaves, needles etc.) Beside that, these buttons are opened quietly, with no distinctive cracking sound that helps with keeping the sound discipline during night operations. At first, you might need to train opening them a bit, but moving forward opening these pockets could be easily done even when you have your shooting or tactical gloves on.
There are additional shock cord tie-downs with cord locks in the area behind your knee. With their help, you can get a perfect fit for your knee pad without blocking your blood flow what constantly happens with stand-alone kneepads.
Down below the lower leg, on the outside, there is a flap with Velcro that helps with adjusting the diameter of the opening or securing the pant to the boot. On the inside of this area there is an additional reinforcement out of core material that minimizes the abrasion from legs rubbing against each other and prolongs the service period.
Overall Mabuta MK-2 Suit by P1G-Tac® would be a good choice for summer time and activities presuming the long stay out in the open: raids & expeditions, hunting, fishing, trekking, cycling etc. since Mabuta MK-2 Suit by P1G-Tac® is a perfect balance between effective thermal regulation and protection from small injuries and bugs.
